FOREVER 27.

The 27 club, a group of influential rock and blues musicians who all died at the age of 27. No one knows whether it is pure coincidence, or a curse that oversees any musical talent when they hit the age of 27.. The usual members of the 27 club are Brian Jones, Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin, Jim Morrison( who all died within the same 2 year span) and Kurt Cobain was later added on. There is controversy on nearly all of the deaths. More famous musicians have died at the age of 27 than any other age... More than three dozen rockers. The number seems far too high to just be a coincidence, but can there really be a curse? The number 27 has been said to "follow" and bring bad luck to people.. in the bible it is also the number of the Anti-Christ. It is very tempting to believe some karmic, spiritual, devilish curse at play here.. surrounding musicians, the troubled musicians.
Personally it all seems a little too far fetched to believe, but the sheer number of people is quite staggering. Perhaps it coincidentally happened to a few people, and then the rest wanted to join and be remembered? It has been said that Kurt Cobain used to talk about joining the 27 club, and he commit suicide at that age.
Whatever the reasons, curse, coincidence, suicide... They are all greatly missed, and maybe it is better to live fast and die young, and be remembered for having great talent, spirit and rebellious energy, rather than gradually fading out, i don't know.. I'm not really one to say.
R.I.P, all of you.

  1. I have always been pretty fascinated by the 27 club.
It's just one of the odd bits of rock lore that I wish I could figure out.

  2. I wonder what it is about the age 27 that made all those rock musicians die? For some reason, a good majority of them died from drug OD's, and I'm sorry to say this, but I can't feel any sympathy for someone who has so much talent and life and wastes it away on drugs. Yeah, Brian Jones of the Rolling Stones did drugs and alcohol, but that was his official cause of death, drowning was. From the way I hear it, he fell asleep and that's how he drowned. It's a pity to see him go, he looked really sweet and loving.

  3. It's such a sad thing that they all died at that age and yeah it's very mysterious, maybe it's a curse. @jaggerfan1 some people get dragged into drugs because of the lifestyle they're in, often not necessarily choosing to take drugs themselves but because of the pressure, and the fact that with money & fame, you can buy anything. It's experimental, and as with many artistic minds, the belief is that drugs can expand your mind and inspire you to make great music. Much of the music created by the Beatles, the Stones, the Doors etc wouldn't be existant if it wasn't for the musicians experimenting with drugs. Nevertheless, I agree drug taking can always go one step too far and it shouldn't be messed around with.

  4. I've always found it extremely interesting, yet somehow creepy. It's strange that they all died at 27, and that it was those big artists.
It's sad, and it does make you think.

i too am digging the 60s and 70s after a paper i took at uni completely opened my eyes to the music and ideas more specifically. thus i'm more informed about the era than just the epic fashion (as i had been).

    cheers for the post!!!
